Whitemarsh Gets $228K For Spring Mill Junction SEPTA Area Improvements
Pop up events, a deck gathering area for cyclists and pedestrians, trail improvements, and more are on tap with the new funding.
WHITEMARSH, PA — Whitemarsh Township has received a major grant from Montgomery County to improve the Spring Mill Junction SEPTA station area.
The $228,552 in funding, through the Montco 2040 Grant Implementation program, will bring new parking, trail improvements, and other safety initiatives that support bikeability and walkability in the community.
"Proposed safety improvements include thermoplastic crosswalk markings and other improvements at the intersection of the trail and Station Avenue, a new raised speed table/crosswalk from the Tricycle Cafe across Station Avenue, and construction of a deck gathering area for improved pedestrian and bicyclist safety, pop-up events, and a place where bicyclists and pedestrians can rest and congregate out of the roadway," the county said.

2024 marks the ninth year of grant funding through the Montco 2040 program, which aims to help create connections between communities, improve local economies, and promote sustainable
Specifically, projects were evaluated for their "impact, equity, readiness, and consistency" with local and county planners. Projects that improved walkability or bikeability in the region were also given added consideration.

A total of 140 grants worth $17.8 million have been awarded since the program was originally launched.
