Baby Allegedly Thrown from Pennsylvania Bridge Dies

Police say the one-year-old's mother threw him from an Allentown bridge, then jumped after him in an apparent suicide attempt.

A one-year-old boy has died from his injuries six days after police say his mother threw him off an Allentown bridge, 52 feet into the Lehigh River below, according to the Morning Call.

An autopsy will be performed Monday morning to determine the cause of death of Zymeir Perry, 1, following his death Saturday morning at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest.

Authorities say that Zymeir’s 19-year-old mother, Johnesha Perry, pushed her 1-year-old in a stroller when she tossed the baby boy into the Lehigh River from the Hamilton Street Bridge around 1:45 p.m. on May 3. Seconds later, she jumped, too, police say.

Rescuers found the baby 700 yards down stream, and performed CPR. The woman was found unconscious under the bridge, according to reports.

According to the Associated Press, Perry was arraigned from her hospital bed Monday morning, charged with attempted homicide, endangering the welfare of a child and aggravated assault. Pending the coroner’s autopsy report, more charges could be filed against Perry.
