Jersey Mike's To Open New Montgomery County Shop (patch.com) — Pottstown residents can look forward to a new Jersey Mike’s opening at 200 Shoemaker Road as part of the sandwich chain’s latest expansion across Pennsylvania. The company plans 12 new state locations, including another shop in Ardmore, though exact opening dates have not yet been announced.
   

2. Housing, homeless advocates fear impacts of HUD funding rules (pottsmerc.com subscription) — Montgomery County has leased space for up to 120 homeless shelter beds at a Pottstown hotel, but that plan could be threatened by new federal HUD funding rules. Local advocates warn the county may lose millions for housing programs, potentially pushing more residents into homelessness just as projects in Pottstown, Norristown, and Lansdale are ramping up.
   

3. K-3 charter school proposal presented to Pottstown school board (pottsmerc.com subscription) — A proposed K-3 charter school at Kingdom Life Church is now under formal review by the Pottstown School Board, with a second public hearing set for Feb. 5. The plan would convert the Robinson Street church space into classrooms for 60–70 students, aiming to close Pottstown’s achievement gap through a STEAM-focused curriculum and character development while remaining non-religious and tuition-free.
   

4. Fellowship Offers Jan. 1 Labyrinth Walk for Meditation (travelswiththepost.com) — If you’re looking for a calm start to 2026, an indoor candlelit Labyrinth Walk is being offered New Year’s Day at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Pottstown on South Keim Street. The free event, with separate hours for children and adults, invites participants to walk, journal, or meditate while learning how labyrinths support mindfulness and stress reduction.
   

5. ‘Difficult decisions': Pa. hospital to shut down ICU and several other units next month (pennlive.com) — Pottstown residents should know that Pottstown Hospital will close its ICU, cancer infusion center, a medical-surgical unit, float pool, and outpatient endoscopy suite starting around January 16, cutting 131 jobs. Tower Health says the move is necessary to stay financially viable, while other hospital services in Pottstown will remain open.
