Paying More At The Pump

In Pennsylvania, today's average price of self-serve gasoline is $1.019 cents higher than a year ago.

According to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report, renewed fears of further economic recession and the expectation that a weaker economy demands less oil, crude prices were down sharply heading into the Labor Day weekend, erasing gains from the start of last week. 

Consumers looking for some relief at the retail level have been countered by recent refinery issues and hurricane concerns on the Gulf and East Coasts that have kept upward pressure on gasoline prices at the pump, even as relatively lower crude prices have exerted downward pressure on prices.

The current national average retail price for a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline is $3.657, down six cents from last month. In Pennsylvania, today’s average price of self-serve gasoline is $3.648 down 5.3 cents from a month ago and $1.019 cents higher than a year ago.

In the Lehigh Valley, the average price for self- serve regular unleaded gasoline is $3.596 per gallon. That is 4.1 cents lower than a month ago and 99.5 cents higher than a year ago. In the Philadelphia market, the average price for self- serve regular unleaded gasoline is $3.689 per gallon. That is 8.1 cents lower than a month ago and $1.018 cents higher than a year ago.
