His name had by Friday been added to a gun violence victims memorial website, where 54 "candles" had been lit for Lamarre. The site has document and posted memories of 69, 460 Americans who have died by gun violence. The non-profit says every day an average of 89 Americans die by gun violence.
Superintendent of Schools Stephen Rodriquez made a public statement Thursday on social media.
"Last night, Jaheim Lamarre, one of our senior students at Pottstown High School, was tragically shot and killed in Philadelphia. Our hearts are grieving for his family and friends. Many of our students are already aware of this through social media outlets," Rodriguez said.
The school district said counseling services are available for both students and staff as we process this terrible incident together, despite our current virtual format.
"It is important that if your child needs support, or just need to talk to someone about this, they are given the opportunity to do so. Please reach out to your classroom teacher, your school guidance counselor, or school principal if your child would like to speak with a counselor (virtually or by phone). Please do not hesitate to take advantage of these services," Rodriguez said.
The number to call for counseling services is 610-970-6715.
