POTTSTOWN, PA — A Pottstown Senior High School student is one of 106 teenagers from across the United States to receive the 2021 Horatio Alger National Scholarship.
Kishan Patel beat thousands of other applicants to be awarded the $25,000 scholarship from the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans. The scholarship is awarded to students who have "remained committed to continuing their education and giving back to their communities while overcoming great personal adversities and navigating the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic," according to the association.
To qualify for the scholarship Patel and his fellow recipients had to maintain an average GPA of 3.88 and come from a household with an average yearly income of $18,871, the association said. The money from the scholarship will be used toward educational costs at the college of choice for each recipient
