Pottstown Man Receives Prison Sentence for Child Abuse

Julian "Tone" Washington, 30, was sentenced to 5-to-10 years in a state prison for the aggravated assault of a 2-year-old boy in June of 2011.

A 30-year-old Pottstown man has been sentenced to serve five to ten years in a state prison, following a May conviction on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, endangering the welfare of a child and endangering another person.

According to a report in the Pottstown Mercury, Julian "Tone" Washington will serve a minimum of five years in prison for physically abusing a two-year-old boy  left in his care on June 24, 2011. The victim, who was hospitalized with trauma to his neck, belonged to Washington's then-girlfriend, Brenda Rivas-Figueroa.

“There was evidence presented at trial the child had pretty significant ligature marks all around his neck. To this day the defendant still denies any culpability for what happened,” said Assistant District Attorney Abby Silverman, in an article by Carl Hessler, on the Pottstown Mercury's website. “He’s very, very lucky the child didn’t die.”
