Hometown heroes Joseph Maguire III and Virginia C. Maguire (Ginny) will serve as Grand Marshals.

Lifelong Radnor residents and Archbishop John Carroll graduates, Class of 1974, the Maguires first met while attending St. Katherine’s of Sienna School.

In 1977, they married, and went on to have five children (Michael, JT, Dan, Ryan and Katie), two daughters-in-law (Amy and Megan), a son-in-law (Chris), and three grandchildren (Joseph, Matthew and Abby).

On Memorial Day, their eldest son, Fire Chief Michael Maguire, will escort them on the Radnor Fire Engine that his grandfather, Joseph Maguire Jr., drove many years ago himself.

Professionally, the Maguires have lived a life of service to Radnor Township. In 1974, Joseph Maguire III joined the Radnor Fire Company and has since served at almost every level in the company, including Fire Chief. And from 1979 to 2021, he honorably served and protected the community as a member of the Radnor Township Police Department, retiring as Sergeant after 42-and-a-half years of service.

Before marrying Joseph Maguire III, Ginny Maguire, née Whiteman, started her active service as a Radnor Fire Company Ambulance Crew Member in 1974. After her wedding, and deciding not to tell her new husband, she trained and qualified to become the first female Radnor Township Firefighter in 1977. Ginny Maguire served many levels at the company and is currently active as an EMT.

Ginny Maguire's father was U.S. Army Corporal John Whiteman, who served in the South Pacific. Her uncle was U.S. Army Sgt. James Montgomery Whiteman, who made the ultimate sacrifice serving in Europe in 1945. For their sacrifice, the Whiteman’s are honored as a Gold Star Family.

This Memorial Day, Radnor Township will remember James Montgomery Whiteman and the Radnor soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines who lost their lives in service to our country as we also reminisce with all Radnor Gold Star Families.
