Radnor Resident Lost $4K To Scammer: Police

Police reported that a phone scam contact a resident asking for money for a past due bill.

RADNOR, PA — A Radnor resident became the victim of a telephone scam in which the victim paid over $4,000 to a scammer, police said.

Police said the victim notified police on Dec. 20 that a phone call came from an individual claiming to be from PECO.

The caller told the victim a bill was past due and forced the victim to open a Bitcoin account to make payment.

Before realizing the caller was a scammer, the victim paid over $4,000.00 to the scammer, police said.

  • Vehicle break-in: A female caller reported at 4:28 p.m. Wednesday, Jan.3, that two males were breaking into a vehicle parked at the Willows, 940 Darby Road.
  • Criminal mischief: At 11 p.m. Dec. 25, vehicle damage was discovered on a vehicle in the J Building of 275 Brayn Mawr Ave.
  • Criminal mischief: Vandals damage a front window of Goodness Bowls, 775 E. Lancaster Ave., at 1:52 a.m. Jan. 1.
  • Retail theft: Retail theft was reported at 8:23 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 12, at the Wawa, 201 Bryn Mawr Ave.
