6th Arrest Made In Havertown Boy's 2022 Roxborough Killing: Police

A sixth arrest has been made in connection with the 2022 shooting outside Roxborough High School that killed Nicolas Elizalde.

ROXBOROUGH, PHILADELPHIA — Nearly three years after 14-year-old Nicolas Elizalde, of Havertown, was fatally shot outside Roxborough High School, authorities have made a sixth arrest.

Zaakir McClendon, 20, has been charged with murder, five counts of attempted murder, and other crimes related in connection with the Sept. 27, 2022, incident at the high school, Philadelphia Police said.

In addition to Elizalde being killed, four other youths were hurt in the shooting.

McClendon is already in custody on firearm charges related to a separate shooting, authorities said.

His new charges come after lab analysis of DNA evidence collected from the shooting scene matched with McClendon's DNA, according to police.

Phone records McClendon frequently contacted two others charged in the shooting around the time of the incident, authorities said.

Police also said additional communications suggested a possible motive, but did not say what that motive could have been.

Of the five others charged in the shooting, Zyheid Jones was sentenced to 30 to 60 years in prison and Troy Fletcher was sentenced to 25 to 50 years in prison. Dayron Burney-Thorn, Saleem Miller, and Yaaseen Bivins are slated for trial later this year.
