Bees On Wissahickon Valley Park Trail Prompt Warning

Crews will place a bee trap at the site Sunday. However, it may take a while for the bees to migrate to the trap.

PHILADELPHIA — The stewards of Philadelphia's Wissahickon Valley Park are warning visitors of potential danger when traversing its trails.

Friends of the Wissahickon said a bee hive is active on the Red and Teal trails.

The group said a large oak tree came down on the trails near the Wissahickon Environmental Center.

Some bees were removed Wednesday, but the queen was not captured, meaning part of the hive remains active.

Park visitors are urged to avoid this area.

The Red Trail can be accessed by walking through the woods near the small parking lot by the environmental center building.
