Coyote Activity Reported In Wissahickon Valley Park

Friends of the Wissahickon are reminding visitors that the park "is a wild place with wildlife that calls the park their home."

PHILADELPHIA — Coyote activity has been reported in Philadelphia's bustling Wissahickon Valley Park recently.

Park stewardship group Friends of the Wissahickon took to social media to alert visitors of the wild canines.

"We've received reports of coyote activity in the park," Friends of the Wissahickon said on social media. "This is a reminder that the Wissahickon is a wild place with wildlife that calls the park their home."

Park goers are urged to be aware of their surroundings while visiting the park and to keep dogs on leashes.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation of Natural Resources, coyotes are primarily are nocturnal, but often hunt during daylight hours, especially in the morning.

Howling might occur at any time of day, but the highest activity usually is at night.

They at times will "pack" and at other times will hunt alone or in the company of another coyote or two.
