Demolition Permits Issued for Roxborough Theater
The demolition of the recently closed Towne Playhouse on Ridge Avenue and two adjacent properties has been approved by the city.
Philadelphia’s Department of Licenses and Inspections has approved a permit to demolish the Towne Playhouse on Ridge Avenue in Roxborough, according to Montgomery Media News.
According to the report, the permit issued in late February allows for the removal of the theater and two adjacent buildings and a consolidation of the properties. It is unknown what will replace the structures and no development plans for the parcel has been presented to the local civic association, the article says. The neighborhood is zoned as small commercial/residential mixed use.
The Towne Playhouse was formerly known as the Wissahickon Theatre, a 400-seat theater that turned into a dance studio fro the last few years before its closing.
