School Bathroom Fire Ruled Arson, Police Say

A secretary notices smoke coming from a second-floor bathroom.

A fire started in the bathroom of a school located in the 200 block of Spring Lane has been ruled an arson by the fire marshal.

The school’s secretary called 911 after she saw smoke coming from a second floor girl’s bathroom, police say.

A custodian at the school extinguished the fire before officials arrived on the scene.

The fire itself had been started in a 30-gallon trashcan, police said, and no injuries were reported.

There were no witnesses or cameras in the area.  Police ask that anyone with more information please contact the Philadelphia 5th police district at 215-686-3050.
