Frontier Launching Philly-To-Jamaica Flights In February

It's about to be much easier to take a trip to the Caribbean thanks to Frontier Airlines' Philly-to-Jamaica flights that begin in February.

PHILADELPHIA – Just in time to escape the brutal winters, Frontier Airlines is launching direct, non-stop flights to and from Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and Montego Bay, Jamaica.

PHL officials announced the new flights Thursday, saying they will begin Feb. 10, prefect timing to get out of the northeast during winter.

The service is scheduled to depart Thursday and Sunday at 6 a.m. from Philadelphia and arrive 9:56 a.m. in Montego Bay.

Flights will depart from Sangster International Airport (MBJ) at 10:56 a.m. and arrive at 2:40 p.m. in Philadelphia. Frontier is planning to use A-320 aircraft on the route.

"We are pleased that Frontier Airlines continues to add more flights to more destinations from Philadelphia," said Airport CEO Chellie Cameron. "The new service to Montego Bay will give our customers more options to fly to a warm weather destination during the winter months."

Montego Bay is Frontier’s 28th non-stop destination from Philadelphia. American Airlines also offers non-stop service to Montego Bay from PHL.

However, back in January the state department issued a travel advisory for Jamaica. The Level 2 advisory urges travelers to Jamaica to use "increased caution" when in the island nation.

In the advisory, the State Department said "violence and shootings occur regularly in some areas of Montego Bay."

State Department figures show in 2016 there were 39 U.S. citizens robbed; 18 U.S. citizens raped/sexually assaulted; nine U.S. victims of aggravated assaults; seven incidents of domestic violence involving Americans; two instances of child abuse involving American children; and 106 missing persons cases reported.

Patch has reached out to Frontier Airlines about the new flights and will update the story when additional details are made available.
