Funding Secured for New Wissahickon Sign

The city will pay for a new sign to be constructed at Ridge and Rochelle after the old one was destroyed.

Josh Cohen, a legislative aide to Councilman Curtis Jones, told members of the Wissahickon Interested Citizen’s Association that funding has been secured to resurrect a sign at the intersection of Ridge Ave. and Rochelle Street.

Last fall, a vehicle crashed through the sign just a few months after construction had been completed.

Cohen said that all of the $3,000 that will be required to replace the sign will come from the city, and that he expects an unveiling by the end of the year.

The original sign read “Welcome to Wissahickon: the Gateway to Roxborough.”

Citizens have asked that the new sign be better lit so that a car does not crash into it again.
