Falling Pole Kills Woman Walking On Roxborough High School Track

A 73-year-old woman died after a light pole at the Roxborough High School track fell on her Thursday morning, according to reports.

ROXBOROUGH, PHILADELPHIA — A woman died when a wooden light pole fell on her amid high winds Thursday morning in Roxborough.

The incident occurred at about 11:08 a.m. Thursday on the track on the football field outside Roxborough High School, according to NBC10.

Fox 29 reports the woman, 73, was walking on the track when a gust of wind knocked the pole down, striking her. She later died at a hospital.

The pole snapped at the base, where investigators believe it was structurally compromised due to dry rot, water flow due to a nearby drain, and backed up rainwater.
