MANAYUNK, PHILADELPHIA — Lights are finally coming to the Manayunk Bridge this year, according to the Bicycle Coalition of Philadelphia.

The coalition recently wrote on its website that it got word the project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

With the new lights, the bridge connecting Manayunk to Lower Merion will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Without the lights, the bridge is closed from dusk to dawn.

"This led to issues with using the Bridge for commuting, as well as early morning rides," the coalition wrote. "The good news is trail users will be able to use the bridge during the construction process. We look forward to celebrating 24/7 access when construction is completed later this year."

Work is expected to begin in late summer, with lighting installation set to start in August and September.
