Nearly $40M Going To SEPTA’s Wissahickon Transportation Center
A groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday to celebrate the major upgrades coming to the bustling depot.
MANAYUNK, PHILADELPHIA — Nearly $40 million is being invested into SEPTA’s Wissahickon Transportation Center in Manayunk, state officials said.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday to celebrate the major upgrades coming to the bustling depot.
"Projects like the Wissahickon Transportation Center make it easier, safer, and more convenient for all users to access transit," Secretary Mike Carroll. "At PennDOT, it’s our job to keep all Pennsylvanians moving – no matter who they are, no matter how they travel. We take this responsibility seriously, and we’re grateful for our partnerships with SEPTA and the many other transit agencies in Pennsylvania."

In the past year, Pennsylvania’s transit agencies provided over 195 million fixed route trips, and over 3.9 million trips to individuals who needed door-to-door service, officials said.
On average, 63 percent of transit users say they have no other transportation option, according to state officials.

“Transit is an essential public service, and provides Pennsylvanians with a vital connection to jobs, to medical appointments, and to their communities,” said Carroll.
