PennDOT Delays Walnut Lane Bridge Project to 2016

Problems with bidders forced PennDOT to re-advertise the project, leaving little time to start the repairs to the historic bridge.

Roxborough residents will continue to have easy access across the Wissahickon Creek for another year after PennDOT announced that repairs to the Walnut Lane Bridge will be postponed to 2016, according to Montgomery Media News.

A PennDOT representative informed the Central Roxborough Civic Association last week that discrepancies with the lowest bidder’s background checks forced the department to re-advertise the project. He said that there would not be enough time to go through the process and have the project finished before winter, the report says.

According to Newsworks.org, the Walnut Lane Bridge repair project is estimated to take six months, requiring crews to close access to the bridge for motorists and direct them along a three mile detour. Pedestrian access will still be available during the project.
