Philly Man Charged in Alleged Video Game Insurance Fraud

The Attorney General says the defendant's burglary report to police did not match information submitted to the insurance company.

The Attorney General’s office announced the arrest of a Philadelphia man accused of fraudulently submitting insurance claims, according to a statement.

Kevin Sommerville, 37, of the 6200 block of Greene Street is charged with one count each of insurance fraud and attempted theft by deception.

According to the criminal complaint, Sommerville reported a burglary at his residence to the police and his insurance company. The two reports, however, did not match up.

Sommerville told Allstate that video games were stolen and gave the company receipts, but information on the receipt confirmed that the games were purchased by someone else, police say.

Sommerville also reported two missing Movado watches to the police. Meanwhile, according to police, he reported a missing Gucci watch and two missing Fossil watches to Allstate Insurance.

Sommerville also submitted receipts to Allstate for a laptop computer and camcorder that were allegedly stolen. Agents interviewed employees at the store where the items were purchased. Employees reported that the items were purchased and then returned prior to the reported burglary, according to the statement.

Sommerville’s preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for June 3.
