Zoo Grant, 6 New Firefighters On Table At Norristown Municipal Council Meeting
More firefighters are needed to protect Norristown, advocates say.
NORRISTOWN, PA — Norristown is considering hiring six new firefighters, and will decide whether to move forward with the proposal during a municipal council meeting on Tuesday evening.
Council approval is needed for the municipality to foward with applying for a Staffing forAdequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant. that would allow them to hire the firefighters, all of whom would be full time.
In the past, advocates for similar staffing expansions have cited the area's growing population, as well as aging infrastructure and poor preventative measures that have led to incidents, particularly in Norristown's rowhome communities.
