Ryan Buchanan (thetimes-tribune.com) — A 31-year-old Hamlin resident who leads marketing and communications at the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce is drawing on his faith, family, and mentors to shape his career in Scranton’s business community. He manages the Chamber’s publications, video series, branding, and internships while also serving local youth and churches, and hopes to eventually teach business or marketing at the college level.

ARIPPA, Eastern PA Coalition For Abandoned Mine Reclamation Award Lackawanna River Conservation Association Mini-Grant; Next Round Opens Jan. 1 (blogspot.com) — A new mini-grant will help document how mine flooding once damaged properties and infrastructure from Old Forge through Scranton to Carbondale, and support an exhibit at Scranton’s Anthracite Heritage Museum. Researchers will produce a white paper, educational materials, and pursue a historic marker at the Old Forge Borehole, a major mine-drainage source into the Lackawanna River.

4. PIAA To Add :35 Second Shot Clock Beginning in the 2028-2029 Season (wnep.com) — High school basketball in Scranton and across Pennsylvania will add a 35-second shot clock starting in the 2028-2029 season, affecting today’s freshmen by their senior year. Local coaches from West Scranton and Scranton High say the change will speed up games, better prepare players for college, and require schools to invest in new equipment and training.

5. New Deadline for PA Property Tax and Rent Rebate Comes Soon (bctv.org) — Scranton homeowners and renters on limited incomes have until Dec. 31 to apply for Pennsylvania’s expanded 2024 property tax and rent rebates, now worth up to $1,000. Supplemental rebates automatically go to some low-income homeowners and qualified residents in Scranton, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh, with income limits set to rise with inflation in future years.
