5 Things to Know This Week: Cream Soda Tasting, Melodia Workshop

1. Melodia Musical Theater Workshop Begins

The director and assistants of the Melodia Musical Theater Workshop at Sweetwater Center for the Arts have each worked with or studied under Mario Melodia for many years, and are determined to pass on his lessons to the next generation.  

Auditions to this intensive summer camp experience were held Saturday. The one-week camp begins Monday, July 22 and runs through Friday, July 26. The performance will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 27 at Sweetwater.


2. Cream Soda Tasting

If you're looking to try a good soda, Village Candy is planning a soda-tasting this time featuring cream sodas.

The tasting is from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 27, in the old-time candy shop at 344 Beaver St., Sewickley. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required by emailing: cream@villagecandy.com.

3. Hidden Treasures of Pittsburgh

Find out what your heirlooms, collections and antiques are worth at the Masonic Village at Sewickley Clubhouse starting at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 25. Bring up to two items and William Cox, owner and operator of Antique Mall Ohio River, will appraise them for free. Call 412-749-6862 to RSVP. Click here for more information.

4. Friday Night Roller Disco

The Sewickley Public Library parking lot will be transformed into a glow-in-the-dark, after hours roller disco. Teens can bring their skates fro 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 26 and party on wheels with glow crafts, food and music. Wear your finest threads to enter the roller disco costume contest. Winner gets a prize. Skate at your own risk. No registration necessary. 

5. Dinner on the Farm

Chef Sabatino DiBattista of Vivo Kitchen and Chef Chris Bonfili of B Gourmet will work together to bring fresh, gourmet ingredients to the table. Starts at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 28 at Barberry Farm, Sewickley Heights. Cost is $110 per person and reservations are required. Call 412-259-8945 or 412-741-6100.
