5 Things to Know This Week: Plant a Garden for Kindergarten, Habitat Open House

Patch gives you a rundown of what's going on around the community.

1. Plant a Garden for Kindergarten

Incoming kindergarten students and their families are invited to "Plant a Garden for Kindergarten" from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1, at the garden in front of Edgeworth Elementary School. Quaker Valley also plans a second event, "Kindergarten Story Time," to be held on Tuesday, Aug. 13.

2. Habitat Hardware Open House

The Habitat Hardware Open House is from 3 to 8 p.m.  Wednesday, July 31, at Habitat, 519 Locust Place. See the latest European and American-made residential hardware innovations on display. Includes raffle, refreshments and sales specials.

3. Watercolor Art

Visit the Sewickley Public Library to browse watercolor and oil paintings, ink drawings, collages and wood-burned pictures created by artists from Masonic Village. The works are on display at the library during the month of July and free to view.

4. Diary of a Wimpy Kid

Kids in grades 3 to 5 can attend a "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" party from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3 at the Sewickley Public Library. Play some Greg and Rowley inspired games, try a hand at comic-drawing, or see how well you know the books trivia-style. Watch the movie and be sure to bring your lunch. The library will supply snacks and dessert. Registration required.

5. Fifth Harmony

Fifth Harmony (5H) is scheduled to perform at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1 in The Mall at Robinson’s Grand Court, Lower Level. The teen pop group debuted their first single “Miss Movin’ On” via radio on June 15 and the Pittsburgh appearance is part of a nationwide mall tour.
