Roast Beef Dinner to Raise Money for Children of 9/11

With the help of a roast beef dinner, a Leetsdale teen is offering support to those directly affected by 9/11.

Michael Scimio, 16, is hosting a roast beef dinner from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 3 at the Leetsdale VFW.

Michael, who is enrolled in the culinary program at Parkway West Career and Technology Center, is cooking the roast beef dinner himself along with mashed potatoes and vegetables as part of his sophomore personal project at Quaker Valley.

Proceeds from dinner will go to Tuesday's Children, a non-profit organization providing support and services for the children of 9/11 and others impacted by global terrorism. 

Michael's mother, Paula Scimio, said her son chose the charity because he wanted to let those affected by 9/11 know they are not forgotten as the years go by and she said the charity itself is something different than what most people are choosing to support.

"Michael picked the roast beef dinner theme because he has always loved to cook and wanted to put his talents to good use," Scimio added.

In addition to dinner, Michael has also collected silent auction items for Sunday to help raise as much as possible for the cause.  

Dinners are $10 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under. Delivery will also be provided to the Leetsdale high rise for anyone interested. Call Paula Scimio at 412-770-7303 to place an order.
