St. James Wins Boys Basketball Championship

It was a hard fought final game, but in the end the Cougars defense was just too much for St. Joseph's.

TheΒ St. James Catholic SchoolΒ boys basketball team won the championship title Wednesday night against St. Joseph of Verona.

The Cougars overcame St. Joe's with a final score of 45-24 atΒ Our Lady of Grace in Mt. LebanonΒ in theΒ Roman Catholic Diocese of PittsburghΒ junior varsity finals.Β 

The team of fifth- and sixth-graders consists of Brock Saftner, John Auth, Luke Saftner, Nathan Cullo, Quinn Hill,Β Jackson Zernich, Tom Peilert, Anthony DiFolco, Jack Cullo andΒ Johnathon Nicolaus.Β

St. James of Sewickley made history this season, garnering three strong victoriesΒ to make it into the finals and to ultimately win the championship.Β
