'Swing Into Spring' with the Maureen Budway Quartet

Music Plus, the free concert series atΒ St. James Church, presents "Swing Into Spring" with theΒ Maureen Budway Quartet.
The performance is 3 p.m. SundayΒ in the church sanctuary atΒ 200 Walnut St., Sewickley.

Maureen Budway, one of the jazz icons of Pittsburgh, will bring her quartet for the 50-minute-long concert with no intermission. The quartet includes Daniel May on piano, Tony DePaolis on bass and Thomas Wendt on drums.Β
The concert will be preceded by a "pre-concert" at 2:30 of The Three Amigos, a trio of Quaker Valley elementary musicians, directed by Chris Burgh, which will be 20-minutes in length.Β The family-friendly concert will be followed by a reception to meet the performers.Β

About Maureen Budway

Maureen Budway was born and raised inΒ Pittsburgh.Β Her career as a jazz singer started with her brother, jazz pianist David Budway, at a jazz club called the Balcony.
She went on to receive a bachelorβs degree in jazz performance fromDuquesne UniversityΒ where she studied both classical and jazz voice. She holds a master of fine arts degree fromΒ CarnegieΒ MellonΒ University.
A winner of theΒ Pittsbugh Concert Society,Β her performances include the role of Cozy Cool in the Duke Ellington jazz operaΒ Beggarβs HolidayΒ with Opera Theater of Pittsburgh.
Budway has performed on numerous occasions with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra; sang Billy Strayhorn tribute in the jazz balletΒ Indigo in MotionΒ with the Pittsburgh Ballet Theater; performed with jazz drummer and downbeat pole winner Jeff βTainβ Watts at the Frick Mansion; Hidden Valley Jazz Festival with jazz flutist Hubert Laws; with renowned jazz drummer Louis Bellson in theΒ Duke Ellington Jazz Mass; and performances with New York jazz musicians Ron Afif, Eric Revis, E.J. Strickland, Jonathan Kreisberg and Freddie Bryant.Β
She is a member of theΒ 21stΒ Century Swing Band,Β and their brand new CDΒ Pittsburgh Jazz Legacy.Β Other recordings includeΒ Maureen Budway and the Freddie Bryant Trio, The Mass of HopeΒ by Joe Negri,Β LatinventionsΒ by Salsamba andΒ Jazzβ¦the Budway.Β She recently performed aΒ Gershwin TributeΒ with brother David Budway as part of the Pittsburgh Symphonyβs Paris Festival 2012.
Budway is currently a member of the voice faculty at Duquesne University. She performs regularly atΒ AndyβsΒ in the Fairmont Hotel, downtownΒ Pittsburgh.
