SOUTH WHITEHALL, PA — Nonprofit groups are keystone community organizations in the South Whitehall area. Fortunately, there is no shortage of organizations to volunteer or get behind financially, and that need your help.

Here are five outstanding nonprofit groups you should know about in the South Whitehall area:

1. Second Harvest Food Bank —Helps feed the hungry in the Lehigh Valley and five other counties in Northeast Pennsylvania, helping more than 200 agencies.

2. South Whitehall Township Fire Departments —The township is served by four, local volunteer fire companies. These groups receive financial assistance from the township but also rely heavily upon state grant support and the generous donations of the residents.

3. Lehigh Valley Humane Society —The Allentown-based shelter helps to find forever homes for pets. Donations are always welcome.

4. ArtsQuest —Provides arts, culture, and educational programs in the Lehigh Valley. The organization partners with towns for community events.
