South Whitehall: A Community Filled With Art And Entertainment
Every town has its traditions. Check out these fun facts about what makes South Whitehall so special.

South Whitehall is a place like no other. And whether you grew up here, recently moved to the area or you’re just an occasional visitor, you know that South Whitehall has its own special traditions and history that make it so unique.
A few things to know:
- South Whitehall was once home to Dorney Park's first rides and attractions. Opened in 1884, Dorney Park started out as a fish hatchery before adding a picnic grove and various rides to entertain guests. Today, Dorney Park is a popular amusement park that draws visitors from all over.
- South Whitehall has a rich history that dates back to the 1700s; the area was first settled by Nicholas Kern. Many of these historic sites can still be seen today, including the historic Jordan Lutheran church, which was built in 1744 and is the oldest church in the township.
- South Whitehall is a great place to shop and dine. The Tilghman Square Shopping Center is home to a variety of stores and restaurants, including Thai Origin, Zio’s Pizza and Grocery Outlet. You can also find local favorites like Zio’s Pizza, which serves up delicious Italian dishes and Duck Donuts, which offers made-to-order donuts.
- South Whitehall is a community that values art and culture. The Allentown Art Museum, located just a short drive away, features a variety of exhibits and events throughout the year, including art classes, lectures and concerts. The nearby Civic Theatre of Allentown is also a great place to catch a play or movie and the Lehigh Valley Arts Council hosts numerous events and performances throughout the year.
- If you're a sports fan, you might be interested to know that South Whitehall is the birthplace of former NFL player and Super Bowl champion Andre Reed. Reed, who grew up in the township, played for the Buffalo Bills and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2014.
- South Whitehall is a great place for beer lovers. The township near several local breweries, including Yergey Brewing, Fegley's Brew Works and Hop Hill Brewing Company. These breweries offer a wide range of craft beers and often host live music and other events.

One of the most popular events is the South Whitehall Township Fall Festival, which features food vendors, live music and activities for kids. The township also hosts an annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony and a summer concert series.

- South Whitehall is a great place to enjoy outdoor recreation. The township is home to several golf courses, including the Allentown Municipal Golf Course, which offers a challenging 18-hole course. There are also several nearby hiking and biking trails, including the Ironton Rail Trail and the D&L Trail.

The township is home to several ethnic festivals throughout the year, including the Celtic Classic Highland Games and Festival, which celebrates the Scottish and Irish heritage of the area. - South Whitehall is located in the heart of the Lehigh Valley, which is home to several colleges and universities, including Lehigh University and Muhlenberg College. These institutions offer a wide range of educational opportunities and cultural events throughout the year.
