Strike a Pose! Sketch Lehigh County's Bison at Trexler Nature Preserve
Free program offered by Wildlands Conservancy and the Baum School of Art on Saturday will mix nature and art.
The bison at the Trexler Nature Preserve will be getting some close attention.
Mixing nature and art, the Wildlands Conservancy is hosting a free program from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday that will allow you to hike and sketch the bison at their home in the nature preserve in North Whitehall.
Experts from The Baum School of Art will join the short hike on the preserve's Elk Watching Trail and will help participants sketch the resident bison.
Participants are asked to bring their preferred dry media—pencils, charcoals or pastels (no paint), and a sketchbook or drawing board and paper.
Lehigh County owns the bison at the preserve, but they are cared for by the Lehigh Valley Zoo. In May, the county welcomed the birth of an American bison, the first in almost a decade at the preserve.Â

In his will, Trexler left the herd and the nature preserve to Lehigh County residents.Â
According to the Wildlands Facebook page, the Bison Sketching program is funded in part by Lehigh County, the Pennsylvania DNCR Bureau of Recreation and Conservation and the Envrionmental Stewardship Fund.
