There’s no place like home! Thanks to creative imagination and inventive activity planning, residents of Springfield Crossings Enhanced Senior Living experienced an “Ageless Adventure in Oz” in celebration of National Assisted Living Week®. With daily themes surrounding the iconic film “The Wizard of Oz,” the personal care community experienced a magical week of events full of inspiration and connection.

“Entertaining and insightful programming is vital to the fulfilling lifestyle our residents enjoy here at Springfield,” said Dee Jones, executive director of Springfield Crossings. “Our Life Enrichment team took an imaginative approach to the theme of this year’s Assisted Living Week – ‘Ageless Adventure’ – and developed some truly unique ways to excite, engage and enhance our sense of community.”

Established by the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) in 1995, National Assisted Living Week offers opportunities for personal care residents and their loved ones, professionals and volunteers to recognize and celebrate the importance of assisted living care for seniors and individuals with disabilities.

Springfield Crossings’ Life Enrichment lead Hazel Robertson noted that the community enjoyed daily Wizard of Oz-themed events including a “No Place Like Home Grandparents Day,” an “Emerald City Celebration,” and a “Somewhere Over the Rainbow Happy Hour.” Additionally, each day was dedicated to a different character from the film paired with an uplifting message for residents, such as “The Scarecrow’s Day of Wisdom,” “The Tin Man’s Day of Heart,” and “The Cowardly Lion’s Day of Courage.” The week concluded with “The Great Goodbye Gala in Oz,” where residents dressed up as their favorite characters from the film.

“This week was all about celebrating our residents and making them feel special,” said Robertson. “Paying tribute to ‘The Wizard of Oz’ served as a joyful and heartfelt way to honor the vital contributions of assisted living and personal care communities while creating memorable moments for everyone involved.”
