Springfield Eyes Red Light Cameras
The Springfield Township Board of Commissioners is starting the process that could end up with cameras on traffic lights.
Springfield is a step closer to getting red light cameras.
The Board of Commissioners approved a reading of an ordinance that could install cameras on red lights in Springfield, according to the Daily Times.
In June, the legislature passed House Bill 254, which basically allowed for the cameras to be used in Montgomery, Chester, Delaware and Bucks counties as well as Pittsburgh starting in September.
To be eligible for the red light cameras, municipalities have to exceed 20,000 residents and have full-time police forces accredited by the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association, both of which Springfield has.
The next steps include an analysis by the police department and a proposal to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, according to the Daily Times.
