Hail, Thunder, Lightning, Flooding Expected Today

Severe weather is expected today throughout the region, according to the National Weather Service, which has issued a number of severe weather alerts.

A flood watch is in effect from 10 a.m. through late tonight.

The U.S. Open at Merion Golf Club suspended play this morning, but play resumed after noon.

The National Weather Service advises people to tie down loose objects, saying the "thunderstorms may produce damaging winds, large hail and isolated tornadoes."

Rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches are expected from today into tonight with locally higher amounts possible. The added rain will increase the chances for flooding to occur on rivers and creeks that are already running high due to the heavy rain that occurred last Friday and Monday.

Driving

The Pennsylvania Turnpike is advising caution, and asking drivers to be alrt for changing weather conditions, which could include reduced visibility. slow or stopped traffic, pinding on the road or debris on the road.
