1. State College borough council passes 8.7% tax increase and warns of potential future increases (wpsu.org) โ€” Property owners in State College face an 8.7% borough tax increase next year after council approved a new budget, while warning another hike may loom in 2026. Members say they must quickly finish long-discussed zoning reforms and possibly trim services to stabilize finances, since nearly half of local property is tax-exempt and one-time windfalls canโ€™t be relied on.
   

2. Addison Court Residents Face Uncertainty With Potential Sale, Redevelopment of State College Senior Apartment Building (statecollege.com) โ€” Dozens of older and disabled residents at Addison Court in downtown State College are facing possible displacement after learning the income-restricted building may be sold and redeveloped into a new mixed-use project. Borough officials say they have limited power over the privately owned property but are working with the Housing Authority and tenants as plans move through State Collegeโ€™s review boards into 2026.
   

3. State College man sentenced to decades in prison for creating child pornography (wtaj.com) โ€” A State College resident has been sentenced in federal court to 30 years in prison after investigators found numerous child sexual abuse videos and images he created while posing as a babysitter. State College police, Homeland Security Investigations, and the FBI worked together on the 2023โ€“2024 investigation, which began with his local arrest in May 2024 and led to federal production-of-child-pornography charges.
   

4. State College man accused of โ€˜slashing' victim with knife (wtaj.com) โ€” A 21-year-old State College man is charged after police say a knife assault inside a Southgate Drive apartment left another man with major injuries on Dec. 14. Officers reported significant blood at the scene, and both men were treated by EMS before the suspect was arrested. Heโ€™s now free on bail and faces multiple assault-related charges, with a preliminary hearing set for Jan. 14.
   

5. Penn State offers to cut fees for students at closing campuses (fox43.com) โ€” Penn State, based in State College, plans to waive two fees for students at branch campuses that will close in 2027, starting in spring 2026. Affected students can take up to 24 credits without a surcharge and will save about $315 in student-initiated fees while still keeping access to campus services and activities.
