Crash Involving School Van Sends 4 To Hospital

The students were OK, a passenger in one of the other vehicles was rescued by Berwyn Fire Company first responders using the "jaws of life."

A minivan carrying school students was involved in a three-vehicle collision after 4 p.m. Monday on North Valley Forge Road, north of Timber Lane.

The minivan was carrying two students home from Pathways in Audubon. Jim Hogan, the minivan driver said that the students were upset, but not hurt. Their parents took them home from the scene.

Hogan said the Lexus sedan was going northbound and downhill on 700 block of North Valley Forge Road when it crossed the double yellow on a curve and slammed into a Chevy Suburban head on.

The Lexus sedan spun around, hitting the school van twice and pinning the passenger in the Lexus, according to Hogan.

Berwyn Fire Co. used jaws of life to free the passenger from the Lexus. That passenger and three other people from the Chevy Suburban that was hit were transported to the hospital by ambulance.

North Valley Forge Road was closed in the area as crews worked to clean  it up. It reopened around 4:40 p.m.

Tredyffrin Police, the Berwyn Fire Company and Ambulance and Radnor Fire Company ambulance all were called to the scene.
