AIDS Activist, Oscars Attendee Chats with BMFI

Before the Academy Award-nominated documentary How to Survive a Plague plays at Bryn Mawr Film Institute Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m., moviegoers can read BMFI's interview with Main Line native Peter Staley, one of the AIDS activists it features.

Bryn Mawr Film Institute public relations manager Devin Wachs spoke with Staley, a Conestoga alum who grew up in Berwyn and will be at Wednesday's screening.

Staley attended the Academy Awards ceremony, which he described like this:

It was amazing, kind of dreamlike. As a gay kid, I grew up watching the Oscars from as early as I can remember and I never missed one. I never dreamed in a million years that I’d end up attending them. It was a dream come true—fun and exhilarating. Regardless of the outcome for the film, I had a blast.

Staley also told BMFI about creating the website aidsmeds.com to help HIV-positive people.
