The Berwyn Fire Company sounds the alarm about the most potentially dangerous room in your house.

The Berwyn Fire Company says one room in the house keeps most fire companies busier than any other when it comes to the source of fires.

The company has posted a list of things to watch out for in the kitchen. Some things on the list of cooking dangers are common sense, some may surprise you. Nevertheless, kitchens are the most common source of house fires.

The fire company has posted a list of warnings from the US Fire Administration. (USFA). Among the things to keep in mind:

The leading cause of fires in the kitchen is unattended cooking.
• Stay in the kitchen when you are frying, grilling, or broiling food. If you leave the kitchen for even a short period of time, turn off the stove.
• If you are simmering, baking, roasting, or boiling food, check it regularly, remain in the home while food is cooking, and use a timer to remind you that you're cooking.
• Stay alert! To prevent cooking fires, you have to be alert. You won't be if you are sleepy, have been drinking alcohol, or have taken medicine that makes you drowsy.
