Berwyn Fire Company Earns Water Rescue Certification

Members of the fire company attended a full day of lectures and field tests on the Lehigh River to attain the certification.

Eleven members of the Berwyn Fire Company recently participated in an Advanced Line Systems Rescue class in Easton to learn the necessary skills to assist residents in Tredyffrin and Easttown during flash flood emergencies.

The water rescue-based class led by instructors from the Allentown and Bethlehem fire departments focused on two important skills: rescues using a tethered boat and rescues where a rescuer enters the water to save a victim trapped in the currents.

The class consisted of a short lecture portion, followed by a swimming test and concluded with a full day on the Lehigh River. During the river portion, each participant was required to enter the water in strong currents in order to reach a victim and bring that victim back to shore both attached a line and unattached to a line.
