Berwyn Kids Get Quick Farming Lesson

Young students at Berwyn Montessori School race to reap the garden goodies they had sewn before snow hits.

The kids at Berwyn Montessori School learned about the harvesting part of farming as the Nor'easter came bearing down on the region this week.

School Director Mary Shultz sent Patch these photos after the 3,4, and 5 year old students dug sweet potatoes and yams for their school's Thanksgiving lunch planned for next week.

The students learned that if you wait until the ground freezes you can lose your crops. So they bundled up and headed out to the garden to harvest the fruits of their planting labors before Mother Nature could freeze them out.
