'Blue Mass' In Wayne Remembers Lives Lost On Duty

St. Isaac Jogues Parish honored police and first responders with a special 'Blue Mass,' as Berwyn and Paoli fire and EMTs gathered Sept. 11.

WAYNE, PA — St. Isaac Jogues Parish in Wayne held its annual "Blue Mass" commemorating on local Police, Fire and EMTs, and remembering on Sept. 11 those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

The Officers of the Tredyffrin Township Police were honored to provide Color Guard for the event and to stand beside our Fire and EMS partners of Berwyn Fire Company and Paoli Fire Company.

"We thank St. Issac’s for this annual event and for the important thoughts and prayers the parish community provides us!" said Tredyffrin police.

Blue Mass is a Catholic blessing of protection for police officers dating to 1934, long before the events of Sept. 11, 2001. Many parishes hold the special memorial each year. St. Michael the Archangel is the traditional patron saint of police officers, and often is depicted wearing blue.
