Dear Kids Who Are Heading off to College This Month,

Your parents will say it, but you may not hear it in all the excitement of the return to college: Know how proud they are of all that you have done to get to this point.

Know that they too have been there (for the most part) and they really DO remember the first days of college.

Know also the one thing they know now that they didn't know when they were starting college, YOU are a part of them, a big part. As exciting as this time is for you, it's tough on them.

Back in "their day" there was only the phone in the dorm and they didn't like calling home either. But YOU can send a text that simply says "hi" and that will mean more than they will ever let on.

Have a great semester. Go get 'em-- but check in with the parents who got you there once in a while...

That's REALLY why they bought you the darn cell phone in the first place!
