CHESTER COUNTY — It was senior day Thursday for the Conestoga High School girls’ softball team.

Guy Ciarrocchi was going about his business as normal, watching and cheering for the Conestoga softball team at D’Ambrosia Park in Berwyn when he got the news he was waiting to hear for two days.

“I was at the Conestoga High School softball game when I heard I was the winner,” Ciarrocchi said, after the game when he was racing to his next event - a gathering in Hamburg, Berks County. “I coached them in Little League. I was greeting the parents, and they started congratulating me. I know a lot of people there.”

The 6th District covers all of Chester County and southeastern Berks County.

Ciarrocchi, 57, of Tredyffrin Township, will face Democratic incumbent, Chrissy Houlahan, 54, of Easttown Township, in the general election.

Houlahan, an Air Force veteran, was elected in 2018, and has been in office since 2019. She was uncontested in the primary.

Ciarrocchi said he was not planning on running for office, but he felt he had to because he didn’t like the shape the country was in with inflation rising, borders opening and children wearing masks.

Initially, Ciarrocchi was running for governor. In February, he dropped out of the governor’s race, deciding to run for Congress.

“I felt as though we were spiraling out of control,” he said. “Now my job is to tell my story.”

Chiarrocchi served as Tredyffrin Township supervisor and chairman of the Chester County Chamber of Business and Industry.

He’s also hopeful that the candidates he was running against in the primary will back him in the general election in November. They are Steve Fanelli, Ron Vogel and Regina Maura.
