Chesco Lawmaker Reacts To Gov. Shapiro’s Proposed $44 Billion Budget
U.S. Rep. Melissa Shusterman praises Shapiro for listening to the concerns of Pennsylvanians.

HARRISBURG, PA —State Rep. Melissa Shusterman said Wednesday that Gov. Josh Shapiro responded to the concerns of Pennsylvania residents when presenting a $44 billion budget to the state House and Senate on Tuesday.
“Shapiro is listening to the concerns of everyday Pennsylvanians,” Shusterman said in reaction to the governor’s proposed budget. “This proposed budget empowers everyone to live happier, healthier lives here in the Commonwealth.”
Shusterman, a Democrat, represents Tredyffrin, Easttown, Schuylkill and Willistown townships in Chester County.

“This budget ensures that no one is left behind, and I stand ready to support it in the state House," Shusterman said.
Shusterman said the governor’s budget plan makes sound investments while maintaining fiscal responsibility by assuring that the Rainy Day Fund remains at $5 billion.

There are some key points in the budget:
- Expanding eligibility and nearly doubling rebates for seniors and people with disabilities under the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program;
- Investments in developing Pennsylvania’s workforce;
- Universal free breakfast for students;
- $100 million investment in mental health services.
Shusterman said the governor’s budget proposal builds on the priorities that House Democrats championed in the 2022-23 enacted budget -- which was overwhelmingly passed last year with broad bipartisan support – such as making commitments to education, public safety, the state's workforce, seniors and the most vulnerable Pennsylvanians.
