Conestoga Wins Season Opener in Football

Turnovers made the difference.

The Conestoga Pioneers rolled over Owen J. Roberts to win the first football games of the season Friday night at Teamer Field.

Final: Conestoga 35 Owen J. Roberts 13

The scoring started early, after Owen J. Roberts fumbled the ball on the kick-off which allowed Conestoga to march down the field in a two minute offensive show of force and a touchdown less than two-and-a-half minutes into the game.

The Pioneers scored the only other TD of the first half with 1:50 left in the second quarter to take a 14-0 lead into the locker room.

OJR came out looking a little hungrier and a little more disciplined on defense in the third quarter, capitalizing on an interception at 7:18 in the third to get on the board.

The Pioneers came roaring back, dominating the rest of the way, including a 76 yard touchdown run by Eric Cook with just over a minute left in the third quarter.

In the end it was Conestoga 35-OJR 13.
