Expect Delays On Glenhardie & Thomas Roads Due To Turnpike Widening
New traffic lights installed to allow single lane traffic on two connector roads in Tredyffrin Township during $117M turnpike project.
TREDYFFRIN TWP — Temporary traffic signals have been installed on Thomas and Glenhardie roads at the Pennsylvania Turnpike overpasses to allow a single lane of traffic through the work area this month to construct two new bridges.
The bridges are part of a $117.M project to widen a 2-mile stretch of the turnpike at the Valley Forge Interchange.
The project is expected to be completed in 2025.

The signals will only be activated for construction of one at a time, creating an inconvenience for motorists enroute to work in the region.
Crews are along the roadside daily monitoring traffic. Thomas and Glenhardie are used as cut throughs from the Phoenixville area to King of Prussia.

The construction of culvert extensions at the two Trout Creek branches beneath the turnpike was completed in June in preparation for the widening of the eastbound and westbound lanes.
Crews continue to install a stormwater drainage system on the westbound side of the turnpike.
The excavation for the installment of a sediment basin began in this month.
Valley Forge Park Turnpike Update
Upper Gulph Road inTredyffrin Township to the entrance of the Valley Forge Park to the Memorial Arch has reopened.
Contractors continue drilling and grouting operations for ground improvements on the east side of the turnpike.
Installation of protective fencing on the westside of the turnpike is ongoing.
Construction along Interstate-76 is expected to take place 7 a.m to 5 p.m Monday through Friday through Aug. 23.
Here are the travel impacts for motorists:
- Periodic off peak single lane closures in either or both directions.
- Thomas and Glenhardie Roads, one lane with temporary traffic signals
- Thomas Road detour for pipe installation
- No shoulders on Route 422 Turnpike overpass.
Excavation area
You may notices large trucks filled with dirt driving around your neighborhood.
That's because the project requires excess soil and rock that needs to be permanently placed within the project limits.
The soil and dirt are being placed at the Valley Forge Service Plaza.
The excess excavation may be up to 37 feet high.
