Fire Ravages Tredyffrin Farmhouse

Damage estimated at $800,000.

Three fire companies were called in to battle a basement fire that caused an estimated $800,000 worth of damage  to a Tredyffrin Township  farmhouse on Yellow Springs Road on the outskirts of Valley Forge National Historical Park, according to the Berwyn Fire Company.

The fire was reported at 11:24 p.m. Monday, according to a report on the Berwyn Fire Company website. Paoli Fire Company, Berwyn Fire Company and the Malvern Fire Company were called in when "the the Chester County 9-1-1 Center reported that Tredyffrin Township Police officers were on scene with fire in the basement and a subject still inside the house," according to the report.

The farmhouse is on the Great Scott Farm property on Yellow Springs Road. According to the report "first arriving units encountered smoke showing from the basement and 1st floor of a large multi-level farm house. It was quickly determined all occupants had safely exited the home."
One firefighter was taken to Paoli Hospital for a minor hand injury, the report says.

Firefighters had the fire under control by 12:10 a.m. All units were clear of the scene before 2 a.m. after burnt debris was removed from the home and clean-up was completed.

The report says the Chester County Fire Marshall's preliminary investigation identified the cause of the fire. "It is believed an electric fan sparked the blaze in the basement. Fire and smoke related damages to the home are estimated at $800,000."
