TREDYFFRIN, PA - The township supervisors this week awarded a $929,426 contract to a Berwyn contractor to replace a culvert along Pugh Road that was destroyed last summer during Tropical Storms Fred and Ida.

The culvert is located about .35 miles east of the intersection of Pugh and Valley Forge roads and conveys Hammer Hollow Tributary across Trout Creek under the roadway.

As a result, a section of Pugh Road has been closed since August 2021.

Construction will begin in September after PECO completes a project to replace gas lines in the area. The work is expected to be completed by May 2023.

“The residents have been waiting a long time for this to be repaired,” Supervisor Sharon Humble said during a supervisors' meeting Monday night.

Richard E. Pierson Construction, Co., Inc. was awarded the contract.

Stephen Burgo, township engineer, said a section of Pugh Road has been closed due to damage from the 2021 storms.

On Aug. 13, he said, heavy rainfall caused debris to block the opening of the culvert. He said repairs were made, but the problem continued.

The proposed culvert will be a single 4- by 8-feet concrete slab which will be able to reduce the debris. The work will be funded with a township bond.
