Last Thursday, September 6 police responded to the report of a theft of used cooking grease from the back of an area restaurant. According to Tredyffrin Township Police "when officers arrived, the latch of the storage container had been cut open."
The case is under investigation.Â

Thefts of commercial used kitchen grease are on the rise nationally. A search of the internet turns up story after story of theives trying to make a quick profit on the slick stuff which is used in bio-diesel fuel and can bring 40 cents per pound or more.
According to a report on the Quincy Mass. Patriot Ledger.com website "A Virginia company that collects cooking grease from 55,000 restaurants and renders it says it is losing up to $80,000 a week to theft. The company, Valley Proteins Inc., recently hired a lawyer to work with private investigators to track down grease thieves, the News Leader of Staunton, Va., reported."
