Tredyffrin Names New Police Chief

A five month search ends with an announcement Wednesday morning.

Anthony DiGiaimo can now drop the word "Acting" Superinendent of Tredyffrin Township Police from his title.

The 23-year veteran of the department has been officially named the new Superindent of the Tredyffrin Township Police Department.  Giaimo, who has held been acting Superintendent since the beginning of the year, replaces .

Giaimo will be officially sworn in at the Board of Supervisors meeting on May 14.

He was chosen from a field of ten candidates that was eventually narrowed to three finalists. Click on the pdf to read the official announcement from Board Chairwoman Michele Kichline, who is also part of the personnel committee that screened the applicants.

Giaimo tells TE Patch he is married to his "high school sweetheart" and quips that his wife "got engaged to a corporate accountant and got married to a cop" because he was going through the police academy during their engagement period. The couple has two adult children.

According to the official announcement from the Board of Supervisors

"Giaimo has served the Tredyffrin Police Department for 23 years. During that time he rose in rank from patrolman to sergeant to lieutenant. He served on the regional SWAT team for 17 years and worked in every facet of the police department. He has been serving as the Acting Superintendent since January 2012.


Giaimo is a 1987 graduate of Temple University with a degree in accounting and holds a Masters degree in Strategic Leadership. He is a 2010 graduate of the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. The FBI Academy accepts only the top one percent of all senior law enforcement executives throughout the country. He graduated with a 4.0 GPA from that program.

What's Next

Chief Giaimo tells TE Patch he is looking forward to building on community programs that have been started and strengthened since the beginning of this year. "There's a very high focus on community," Giaimo says. "(we are working on) putting together a special victims unit and different substance awareness programs."

Since becoming the Acting Superintendent Giaimo has instituted a community awareness and information lecture series on some of the biggest public safety issues in Tredyfrrin.  The next presentation will be on the last Thursday of the month at the Tredyffrin Municipal Building with a discussion of Project Child Safe and gun safety issues, including child safety locks on weapons kept in the home.
